APRIL 2013
The first Wood Anemone, Mols Bjerge N.P. Denmark
This past month became the coldest April in 25 years and it was very dry and sunny too. I photographed this Wood Anemone on a sunny hill facing South early in the month, almost three week before they began to show their white face everywhere. Photographing plants and flowers are exciting and very rewarding, just take your macro lens and start to work, at first you might not see anything at all, but suddenly motifs appear just in front of you.
I have always been fascinated by photographing plants and flowers and using macro lenses opened a whole new world of opportunities, when I started making images of plants, more than 15 years ago. I like to use large apertures to soften the surroundings and isolate the main subject, making an artistic feel and creating an image with "flower-power" as I like to call it. I never get tired of looking at images like this, they inspire me to make new ones!.

MARCH 2013
March Snow, Assentoft, Denmark
One afternoon a heavy snowfall arrived together with strong winds, I knew that I had to be out in search of motifs, despite the extreme conditions.
Winter weather always look cold and uninviting when you are indoor, but when you are out in it, it does not matter - when you have the right clothes. Snow in March is not unusual in Denmark, but recent winters ended in early March, but this year the winter will not loose its grip.
This image is photographed only a few kilometers from my home; I had one motif in mind, photograph Roe deer in the landscape and I got them and as a bonus a fox in a perfect landscape.

FEBRUARY 2013
Snow pattern, Madum Sø, Himmerland, Denmark
Almost three months of winter has passed and biting cold weather has dominated most of the month of February, but in the last week we experienced the first sign of spring with the first day with springlike conditions, you could feel the warmth of the sun on your face for the first time this year.
The good weather took me by surprise, I simply had too many layers of clothes on and at some point I was almost boiling until I got rid of a layer.
The sun is getting stronger day by day and the melting has begun, okay you can't see it on this image from Madum Sø, the largest lake in Himmerland; I was out most of that day enjoying the beautiful weather with a clear blue sky and no wind, most of the snow in the landscape is gone now, but on the lake an inspiring pattern of snow and ice were a great motif for me.

JANUARY 2013
Winter Impression, Mariager fjord, Denmark
January was a divided month, two weeks with temperatures on the positive side and two weeks below zero day and night. Fjords, ponds and lakes were soon covered by ice and snow-showers covered the landscape with a white carpet.
On this impressionistic image I photographed Mariager fjord in the twilight and instead of just making a sharp documentation photo, I tried to make a more artistic impression by moving the camera during exposure.
Patterns of snow on the ice, together with the pink pastel coloured sky created this mystic image from another world.

DECEMBER 2012
Winter sunset, Langå egeskov, Gudenåen, Denmark
The first two weeks of December, was a time you just had to be out to experience the Arctic air and frosty landscape. Snow and beautiful winter light was the photography menu for those weeks here in Denmark.
Another great motif was frost, when Mother Nature hits us with a sudden blast of cold, at least in this part of the country, she sometimes softens the blow with an indescribably beautiful phenomenon called "hoar frost." Some call it frozen dew, or white frost.

NOVEMBER 2012
Autumn leaves and naked trees, Mariager, Denmark
As winter draws nearer, it’s definitely getting colder outside and slowly the beautiful golden leaves of autumn are falling away, leaving the stark bare tree branches in the landscape.
Each season has beauty in it, if you take the time to look. Some very atmospheric pictures of bare trees can be captured, without their leaves, the spiny branches can give off a spooky feel.

OCTOBER 2012
Autumn Wind, Madum Sø, Himmerland, Denmark
I have used the wind creatively and worked with a long exposure technique in bright daylight, this is forced by using a ten stop neutral density filter.
Photographing with a long exposure you can create some amazing effects that are not visible to the human eye; its like being in a darkroom, you never know what you get until the exposure is over and can be seen on the camera screen.
The filter is simply outstanding in adding motion and action to the image, not that it adds anything at all, in contrary it simply eats ten stops of light and you´ll get extreme long exposures as an effect.

SEPTEMBER 2012
Sunny Rain, Rebild Hills, Denmark
Hiking in the rolling hills near Rebild is an experience by itself, but as a photographer I'm always looking for something out of the ordinary.
Sunny rain is absolutely a type of weather, worth getting your precious equipment soaked for, it’s also pretty rare which makes it even more special. The rolling hills at Rebild is a unique and beautiful open hilly heath, a breath-taking landscape that offers many enjoyable experiences at any time of the year and the view is a landscape photographers paradise.
The open landscape in the hills are covered by scrub, heather, crowberry and blueberry. The scrub consists of aspen and beech as well as scattered oaks.

AUGUST 2012
Magical Dawn, Gudenå valley near Ulstrup, Denmark
Here is yet another unforgettable spiritual moment, photographed pre-dawn in the hills near Ulstrup. It was worth waking up at 0430 and make the drive to the viewing point looking over the Gudenå valley.
A layer of magical mist deep down in the valley was reaching to the horizon, while the sky put on a teaser show with an awe-inspiring light show before finally introducing the sun.
I wonder if a moment like this is nature's way of awakening something deep within us, I for one can't get enough of these moments.

JULY 2012
Geum rivale, Store Blå Kilde, Rold, Denmark
Just before sunrise one misty July morning I photographed this Geum rivale. It was pure magic with no wind and the dew covered everything on the misty meadow.
I like to photograph plants with a shallow depth of field isolating the plant form the background, but using that technique on this plant required photographing the plant parallel keeping both flowers on the same plane of focus.
